Christmas '09
As ever – grateful thanks to all who contributed to our Wheatsheaf Wassail &
our Traditional Tour of Ewell Village, on Boxing Day. The princely sum of £1,029.17 was raised
for the Mayor of Epsom & Ewell's Charities.
Sian Tolfree – Help an Angel
Part of our collection at The Leatherhead Christmas Festival plus our collection at
'The Running Horse Wassail' was donated to local Leatherhead girl, Sian Tolfree. A cheque for £125 was the
result & again – thanks to all.
The Dance
Experiencing some intensive practice in this, our close season! With a fair wind there’ll be Black,
White, Yellow & Green, Portobello & D'you make her? On the Dance list for 2010 – along with all
the old favourites!
AGM '09 Mick Sargeant
voted as new squire to replace Dave Anders &
grateful thanks from all was heartily echoed
for all the latter's efforts over the past two years. Dave is an excellent dancer, singer & a
steadfast supporter of ESMMM and it's style - which has been fully appreciated throughout his tenure.
ESMMM appear on Channel 5! (with Ted Smith stealing the limelight)
30th Anniversary Day of Dance '09
Wish to acknowledge our thanks to all who made the day a resounding success.
Reverence to our Bagman for co-coordinating - but Geoff & Richard Heels for the vintage coaches;
Ray Welton - Master Brewer from Horsham for the Ales & his super company during the day.
Gill Pottinger [& the Pottinger family] for those legendary mouth-watering cakes.
Mike, the photographer.
What a feast! Carol Collins, Anne Watson, Carol Read, Linda Elphick & Maria Bird - absolutely superb...
and, of course, all the Pub landlords! Finally, our great mates 1st Sedgley Morris Men, from
The Black Country & Pilgrim Morris Men from Guildford, for celebrating the day with us.
ESMMM on CD?
We’ve spoken about it for years & could it become a reality? Toby Greenwood has kindly allowed himself to
put his head on the block to record us - & as this news-page goes to press, there are sessions in
'The Jolly Coopers' by way of practice! Could this go the way of 'The Ballina Trout Festival?'
Time will tell – but encouraging at this stage!
Seth the Fletcher ESMMM caught on camera dancing Seth the Fletcher in the Black Country!
Top Hats
The Team is always on the look out for Black Top Hats. If
you can help, please don't hesitate to get in touch! See below
for contact details.
Hon Archivist Chris
Pottinger [VP] would welcome with open arms any
enquiries as to our history. May even tempt you into hearing
a ‘fascinating epic’ concerning ‘rose-tinted
water & a finger-bowl!
The White Dragon of England We were presented with this
Old Saxon Flag by Ron Huddlestone of 'The Running Horse' on 11th December.
This preceded 'The George Cross' as the flag of England before the Norman Conquest.
This flag will now fly proudly alongside our George Cross in future.

Some say (playfully?) 'Ye olde whytte doggye of Olde Angleand'
Eleanour Rummnyge Legendary hostess of 'The Rummynge House' in John Skelton's C16th poem was celebrated, when her distinctive image was immortalised in a new pub sign at 'The Running Horse' Leatherhead, in December. See our Gallery ... do you find a song coming on?!
Musicians As always, where
would we be without them? 'Lead' musician Eric Warren
(Melodeons), Kate 'Kevin' Jackson (Recorder & assorted instruments)
with contributions
from Alan Greenwood (Fiddle), Richard
Becksmith(Melodeon) & Tony Hadlow(Guitar & Banjo)
Reverence too, to our Bagman, Ray Watson. Working his socks off in his Office. 'The best bagman ever!' is a prodigious citation received from a revered ancient Ewell source. The 'Barrel Stick trolley' is the stuff of legend.
Kevin King ~ Kingthings Whose sympathetic enhancements to our traditional Morris
Man logo were applauded by all. His mystical designs, fonts,
wallpapers etc are a must, see them on
Kingthings
One of many of the sides
